LAPP - LAPP Pension When Employment Terminates? - Life Event

Modified on: Thu, 20 Mar 2025 10:19 AM
Thank you for reaching out to us.

As a LAPP member, you are entitled to a lifetime LAPP pension at retirement.

Once you leave the Plan, we will report your employment details to LAPP, and they will send you a Termination Statement with your options. You will have 90 days to make a decision and let LAPP know. If you do not, your funds will be left with LAPP until you decide what you want to do with them.

These are the choices available for you on what to do with your LAPP benefits.
  • You Can Leave Your Pension Benefit With LAPP
  • You Can Transfer Your Pension Benefit to Another Pension Plan
  • You Can Transfer Your Pension as a Lump Sum to a Locked-In Retirement Account (LIRA)

More information on these options can be found here - Leaving the Plan - Local Authorities Pension Plan

I have attached the termination checklist for your reference.

If you have further specific questions, kindly reach out to us.

Have a great day!
