Dental Care - Implants - Benefits
Thank you for your email.
Implants can be complicated!
First, for any major dental work, you should always obtain an estimate from the dentist and approvals for coverage of the work. I don’t know if that was already done – that would then outline exactly what should be covered, how much could be paid out, and allow you understand your portion of any costs for the work.
Secondly, as best as I understand it, Manulife will reimburse on implant treatments up to the cost of a less expensive alternative treatment. So if a bridge could be an alternative treatment but was less expensive, then Manulife would reimburse up to the cost of the bridge. Implants come under the "Major Restorative Services" level and coverage would be at 50% (up to your annual limits).
Manulife will reimburse the claim on implants once all the work is done. I appreciate there is usually a gap between the preparation work and then allowing the bone to heal and then the fitting of the final implant but they won’t reimburse until that final fitting is done. So keep all receipts.
Finally, other pieces like a CT scan and consultation fees might be claimable against your HCSA if you have/had any balance there...
If you have any further questions, I would also recommend reaching out to Manulife at 1.800.268.6195.
